The suspension of the Plateau State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Damishi Sango and his Deputy, Hon. Amos Gombi, by 17 members of the State Executive, has been signed and sealed by the State Executive Council (SEC), by 65 ratifying the action out of 72 members.
Also putting paid to the action this morning is the State Executive which voted in support of the suspension of the Chairman. Out of 23 members, 21 voted in support of the action of the 17.
To add to the weight of the ratification, the suspended chairman, Hon. Sango and his Deputy, Hon. Gombi, are expected to face a Disciplinary Committee set up by SEC this morning, to look into the allegations raised on the face of the suspension letter addressed to SEC by the 17.
SUSPENDED CHAIRMAN, HON. SANGO
To lead the Disciplinary Committee is Barr S. T. Panwal as Chairman and Panson Dagyat as Secretary, while Ventim Ntem, Dayabu Dauda, Barr Auwal Haruna, Hon. Sylvia Miri and Moses Sule are to serve as members of the Committee.
You would recall that REALITY had reported that the crisis rocking the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) few weeks after the general elections in the state is bring earlier secret activities of the party to the center stage of the state’s politics and the polity.
It is on record that, immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the winner of the governorship election in the state, to be the All Progress Congress (APC) and its candidate, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, who also doubles as the incumbent Governor, the PDP opened up a floodgate of press briefings, promising the people of the state, that they would stop at nothing to reclaim the mandate, which the alleged “stolen”.
But, this dream has started assuming a tall nature and creating tension, as the recently announced suspension of the chapter’s Chairman, Hon. Damishi T. Sango and his Deputy, Hon. Amos Gombi, seem to have started to redefine the struggle to reclaim the alleged “mandate of the people”.
REALITY from reliable sources within the PDP, gathered that there are protest moves, to withdraw members, who are Pro-Sango from the state party’s legal team in order to allegedly frustrate the legal team and its preparations to face the APC at the Governorship/Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which hopefully would be sitting at West of Mines in Jos, the state capital.
Although unconfirmed, REALITY has been told that some Lawyers, who are Pro-Sango, may have started packing their bags and set to leave the legal team over the suspension controversy.
REALITY also gathered that Pro-Sango members in the campaign team have viewed the report that some members are staking their necks, to investigate the earlier reported Kidnap of the Chairman and the sources of finance that helped to remove him from his kidnappers, as “wicked.”
Many, who made frantic calls to the Editor-in-Chief of RREALITY, lamented and questioned what the investigators, who are politicians and members of the party, want to achieve. Adding that, “Are they suddenly policemen also?”
But, the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Plateau State appears to be deepening, as the call for a meeting of the members by the now suspended State Chairman, Hon. Damishi Sango, fell into deaf ears, as it further establishes the division within the chapter, owing to the facts that, only seven (7) members of the EXCO were reported to have honoured the invitation to the meeting.
Although Pro-Sango members in the party have described the new struggle as, “2023 Power Tussle” since, the tenure of the suspended Chairman by 17 members of the EXCO would expire in the next few weeks, the embattled Chairman has rather chosen to describe the moves as illegal.
However, despite the ongoing agitations at the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the legal team in charged with raising, filing and prosecuting the petitions being filed has reassured the members of the chapter that, “There is no shaking”.
In a press statement made available to REALITY few hours ago, the Legal team holds that, “The agitations and tantrums are not unexpected in a large family that PDP represents, especially at a time such as this when a few things have gone wrong resulting in the loss of the election which the Party ought to have won. The anger, frustration and the attendant pain and despondency arising therefrom is therefore understandable.
“We know how these politicians play their game, and you can bet that soon, very soon they’ll regroup and reconcile themselves and carry on as if nothing had happened. From history and experience, they throw ‘punches’ at each other publicly but return to the dining table to wine and dine together, they align and realign, and they keep no permanent enemies”.
Adding that, “All the PDP petitions at the two Election Tribunals are founded on solid grounds as required by the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (both as amended). So, NO SHAKING!!!.
“Our assurances of neutrality and commitment to serve and propel our great Party to assured victory are genuinely founded on, and activated by patriotic zeal.
