PEACE SECURITY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE
It is a global fact that good governance can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and mutual progressive understanding. It became pertinent for the Lalong administration on assumption of office, to create an atmosphere of unity, peaceful coexistence and mutual support, so as to effectively implement projects that have far reaching benefits in the lives of the Plateau people and Nigeria at large.
• Creation of Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA)
• PPBA launched a five year strategic peace plan (January 2018- Dec. 2022)
• Held constant advocacy engagements with several media outlets where online presence of government programs and activities on peace building are disseminated.
• Adopted a Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD), and Community Architecture Dialogue (CSAD) as part of the National Stability and Reconciliation Program in conjunction with Search for Common Ground and European Union
• Held periodic roundtable discussions where non-state actors are brought to discuss the peace building effort of government.
• Series of advocacy with stakeholders were held all aimed at peace building and peaceful coexistence.
• Held periodic consultative dialogue with traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, women and youth organizations.
• Developed practical and proactive policy measures aimed at addressing some underlying causes of conflict in the State.
• Created volunteer and intern platforms where young people with relative experience and personal competences serve as support staff as well as student interns from the Open University.
• Filled the vacant chieftaincy tools in the State, who, as custodians of their respective domains, the traditional rulers are actors on security issues.
• Organised and constituted a special committee on the Berom/Fulani conflict where series of issues are discussed and action taken to minimise the continued conflict between the two, as well as find a lasting solution.
• Relocation of over 200 internally displaced persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes.
• Opened an early warning signal centre at the operation Rainbow headquarters where citizens can alert security operatives of conflict situations.
• Agitation for the creation of state police and the planned resuscitation of Operation Rainbow.
• Held Joint interstate boundary meetings on Kaduna-Plateau and Bauchi-Plateau Border problems where meaningful resolutions were achieved.
• Maintenance of Peace and security between the three neighbouring border states were adopted
• The equitable demarcation of boundary between Kaduna-Plateau based on the available reliable data in the stress areas.
• Partnered with National boundary Commission and Mercy Corps, a global NGO, and organised from December 1-3 2015, a cross border cooperation amongst border communities of Kaduna-Plateau
• Adopted a mechanism for peaceful coexistence targeted at the Ganawuri/Tahoss communities with the aim to finding lasting solutions to the lingering boundary disputes, and between Mikang and Shendam LGAs on the state of Zomo (SUKLUT) as well as between the Irigwe/Rukuba communities, whose reports have been submitted.
• Made collaborative effort with the federal government geared towards sustaining peace in the State. this effort saw the establishing of :
• Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 220 Base for research and rescue operation in Kerang, Mangu local government Area
• Mobile police force barracks in Shendam Local Government Area.
• The acceptance to open another mobile police force barracks in Gashish, Barkin Ladi Local government Area
